NFL wide receiver for Carolina Panthers Xavier Legette‘s Thanksgiving dinner featured an unconventional animal.
The 23-year-old athlete recently appeared on the St. Brown Podcast, hosted by fellow professional football players and siblings Equanimeous St. Brown and Amon-Ra St. Brown. During the episode, Legette discussed journey from growing up in South Carolina to making it to the big leagues. He also shared how his “rural” childhood shaped some of the food he eats.
According to People, when Equanimeous asked Legette about his “hottest food take” or “something weird he likes to eat,” he answered, “I eat raccoon.”
“You what? What do you mean, raccoon?” Equanimeous asked to ensure he heard him correctly.
“Like the raccoon you see in the trash can,” Legette explained.
“I hunt it, I kill it, I skin it, cook ‘em, eat ‘em. All of that,” he added.
Amon-Ra then inquired about the last time Legette ate racoon; turns out, it was on Thanksgiving.
“All my people do hunting and all that,” he said. “My cousin is the one that killed it, and came and was like, ‘Come on, we got the raccoon.’”
“That sounds crazy,” Amon-Ra laughed.
And if you’re curious about how racoon tastes, Legette said, “It’s got its own touch. You know everybody says it still tastes like chicken, but raccoon got its own touch though.”
He also shared that he eats rabbits and squirrels.
“He’s gonna say skunk next,” Amon-Ra joked.
Legette invited the brothers to join him for a meal.
“Y’all gonna come to my city and try all this stuff,” he said. “I’m telling y’all, you’re going to like it.”
