It looks like Odell Beckham Jr. and the Miami Dolphins are breaking up.
On Dec. 13, the NFL franchise announced on X, formerly Twitter, that they have “waived” Beckham as a player. He signed to the team in May 2024, playing nine games during the current season, according to a statement by Miami Dolphins.

Was it a one-sided decision?
According to Bleacher Report, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero mentioned the decision was actually mutual. As the outlet reported, “Beckham signed a one-year deal worth up to $8.3 million with the Dolphins in the offseason.” Mike Garafolo of NFL Network pointed out that the team could technically only pay Beckham $200,000 for the remainder of the season if it submitted a waiver claim.
The Dolphins signed Beckham because they wanted an additional option for their passing attack. After all, the team solely depended on Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, who couldn’t catch a fair break in 2023. Together, the duo combined for 275 targets that year, while no other player exceeded 43.
Unfortunately, the LSU alumni struggled to make the meaningful impact they hoped for due to him missing the first four games since he started the season on the physically unable-to-perform list.
On Thursday, Beckham shared a cryptic note via Instagram hinting that he may drop off the Miami Dolphins roster soon. If the 32-year-old athlete goes unclaimed on waivers, he’ll be deemed a free agent with any of the 32 NFL teams by Dec. 16.
