Disney is going back to Seabrook.
A fifth Zombies film has been greenlit for Disney+ and the Disney Channel, with Malachi Barton reprising his role as Victor, and Freya Skye reprising hers as Nova. Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly are also reprising their roles as the film’s executive producers, with Trevor Tordjman reprising his role as Bucky, the original cheer captain and Addison’s cousin.
Filming for the film will begin this spring in New Zealand. The film’s title has yet to be announced.
This film follows the events of the fourth film, Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires, which left off with the shaky truce between the Daywalkers and the Vampires. However, new problems emerge with the arrival of a new crew of brave mermaids, who use their hypnotic siren song to bring new members into the mix. Victor and Nova are forced to work together again as they try to determine the mermaids’ intentions and maintain the peace that the two groups worked so hard to secure.
Malachi Barton reprises his role as Victor, while Freya Skye reprises hers as Nova. Swayam Bhatia reprises his role as Vera, while Julian Lerner reprises his role as Ray, and Mekonnen Knife reprises his role as Vargas. However, the film also introduces new faces: Diaana Babnicova as Pearl, Taylor Oliver as Fin, and Olive Mortimer as Sandy, the new mermaids. At the same time, Emily Costtrici plays Izzy, Zed’s cousin and the new transfer student.
The DGA Award winner, who has directed and exec-produced the entire franchise, is back for the fifth installment. The movie has an all-star team of exec producers, including Jane Fleming, Mark Ordesky, Joseph Raso, David Light, Skot Bright, and Manheim and Donnelly. New dance sequences have been created by Dondraico Johnson, with an original score by Tom Howe. The writers are Chris Hazzard, Michael Fontana, and Eydie Faye.
“ZOMBIES has become a defining franchise for this generation,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “Each movie takes the story in a new direction. By bringing mermaids into ZOMBIES 5, we’re creating a new dynamic while still honoring the music, characters, and messages of unity and acceptance found in the ZOMBIES franchise.”
This is one of Disney Channel’s flagship original series. The first three installments saw the movie premieres ranking No. 1 in the ratings among Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14. The franchise has now reached 385 million hours viewed across TV and streaming in the U.S.
ZOMBIES 4: Dawn of the Vampires, released in the summer of 2024, received 9.3 million global views in the first nine days of its availability on the Disney+ streaming service. The movie has now reached 43 million views in under six months.
This is one of the greenlighted movies in what is a milestone year for Disney Channel. The Disney Channel is celebrating its own milestone in 2026. It is the 20th anniversary of the premiere of High School Musical. It is also the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana’s premiere. Other movies being released include Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and Camp Rock 3. The Descendants/ZOMBIES Worlds Collide Tour, which is now a Disney+ concert event featuring the Descendants, ZOMBIES, and Camp Rock casts, is also returning in 2024.
