Zara Larsson spoke candidly to her fans regarding what happened after she made a joke about abortion in a fan’s comment on one of her TikTok videos. The singer told her fans that she had walked away from a multimillion-dollar business deal.
She told her fans that she had walked away from a three-million-dollar business deal and that she stood by what she said, even if people criticized her. “I had lost a three-million-dollar deal. I was like, OK, what the f***? If you don’t agree with me thinking that women should have access to abortion or that we could have a joking conversation about it, we’re just not meant to be partners,” she said.
She said she wasn’t affected by what people were saying about her. “You can give me a million DMs, you can send me a million comments about ‘boo boo, you’re a bad person,’… I don’t give a rat’s a** because I’m so sure of my stance in that.”
It is worth noting that Larsson had recently faced criticism for another TikTok video in which she used artificial intelligence. The singer told her fans that she had deleted that video. “I deleted that … AI video because I just don’t give a f***. When it becomes this big thing and controversial, I don’t like to be a part of that,” she said.
Larsson said she is “very sensitive” to the online conversation. She said she does not feel “fully informed” about the debate surrounding the use of AI technology. “I feel like I’m not really educated enough on it. But I do appreciate informative comments and DMs,” she said.
Despite her reservations about using AI technology, she said she prefers to work with real people. “As an artist, I wouldn’t use it in my art. I always hire real people for visuals and music and everything in my world,” she said.
Reflecting on the backlash she experienced from her fans, she said she felt the need to remind them not to put her on a pedestal. “Please don’t think that I’m perfect. I don’t like that. At the end of the day, I’m just a person with a phone,” she said.
She said she knows it is hard to have millions of fans online. “It’s hard to grasp the concept of this being watched by millions of people,” she said. She said she uses social media to connect with her fans. “I just want us to connect, and that is something that AI cannot replace for me,” she said.
