Why Did Trump Say ‘Praise To Allah’ In Vulgar Easter Message Threatening Iran?

President Donald Trump shocked observers across the political spectrum with an explicit and hateful Easter message aimed at Iran. The president’s vulgar and Islamophobic taunt to the country, after weeks of war, has raised objections, and Trump’s warnings to the country are being condemned as threats of potential war crimes.

Trump condemned for insulting Islam and threatening war crimes

On Sunday, Trump posted an unusually explicit message aimed at Iran, weeks after the United States and Israel launched a war against the country.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!” Trump said in his Truth Social post, echoing threats to attack Iran’s energy and transportation infrastructure if the country doesn’t reach a deal with the United States. In recent weeks, the war — initially framed as an attack against Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities — has focused on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a major global waterway that Iran has essentially shut down after the war began.

“Open the F**kin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!” Trump continued before concluding the threatening message against Iran, a predominantly Muslim country officially known as the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the line “Praise be to Allah.”

Many widely condemned Trump’s message. The Council of American-Islamic Relations said that the president’s use of the phrase “Praise be to Allah” demonstrated a “willingness to weaponize religious language while simultaneously denigrating Islam” and condemned the president as “mocking” the religion.

“These statements are not made in a vacuum,” CAIR said in its statement. “They follow a long pattern of anti-Muslim rhetoric and policies that have dehumanized Muslims at home and abroad.” CAIR also warned that Trump’s use of religious language mixed with threats against Iran  displayed “indifference to human life and contempt for religious beliefs,” as the president “openly promises to commit war crimes.” CAIR called on Congress to reconvene to vote to end the war against Iran.

Trump post blasted by liberals and conservatives

CAIR’s Trump condemnations matched outrage at his post from across the political spectrum.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer posted on X, formerly Twitter, “Happy Easter, America. As you head off to church and celebrate with friends and family, the President of the United States is ranting like an unhinged madman on social media.” Schumer added that Trump was “threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called the post a “disgusting and unhinged Easter message from Donald Trump,” adding, “Something is really wrong with this guy.” Jeffries also mocked Trump’s typical social media signoff, ending his post, “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders called Trump’s words “the ravings of a dangerous and mentally unbalanced individual,” declaring that “Congress has got to act NOW. End this war.”

Media personality Piers Morgan, who has known Trump since competing on and winning Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice reality show competition in 2008, called Trump’s post “embarrassing” and called on the president to delete the message “unless you want everyone to think you’ve lost your marbles.”

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who was once one of Trump’s most vocal supporters before breaking with him over issues like the Epstein files, condemned Trump’s post and the war itself.

“Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness,” Greene shared. “I know all of you and him and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.”

She also criticized the war, stating, “I’m not defending Iran but let’s be honest about all of this. The Strait is closed because the US and Israel started the unprovoked war against Iran based on the same nuclear lies they’ve been telling for decades, that any moment Iran would develop a nuclear weapon.”

The war with Iran continues without a clear end in sight. As the regime in Iran endures and inflicts damage to U.S. allies and the world economy through its attacks on the Strait of Hormuz, Trump seems to become increasingly unhinged in his approach to the country. By mocking the religion of most Iranians and threatening to attack the country’s civilian infrastructure, Trump is potentially escalating an already destructive conflict, and prominent figures on both sides of the political aisle are saying the president has gone too far.
