What Does New Ransom Note Allege About Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance? Here’s More On Claims

Two ransom notes have reportedly been sent in connection to the case of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie. Guthrie’s mother was kidnapped and hasn’t been seen since February 1. The latest ransom notes claim to know who is responsible for the kidnapping and allege that Nancy Guthrie is dead, according to TMZ and as reported by The New York Post.

Two ransom notes were sent to TMZ

Two ransom notes were sent to TMZ, the news outlet reported on Monday. They were sent from the same person who had asked for one bitcoin in exchange for information related to the case.

“We got another letter today from this person, an email saying, ‘I know where her body is, and who the kidnapper is, give me half a bitcoin and I’ll tell you,’” TMZ’s Harvey Levin said, according to The New York Post.

One note reportedly claims that Nancy Guthrie is dead: “I saw her alive with them in the state of Sonora Mexico,” the second note claimed.

The individual who sent the notes repeated that they would send information for half a bitcoin and another half transferred when there is a public arrest. They added that they have been “disregarded as a scam” by law enforcement.

“It’s unbelievable that millions have been wasted and yet here I am willing to deliver them on a silver platter since the 11th of february for a bitcoin but I am disregarded as a scam … they are free and the case is frozen but the ego’s remain hot when it comes to me,” one of the letter reads, according to TMZ. “Arrogance at it’s finest.”

The individual added that they have nothing to do with the crime and that they have been outside of the U.S. for over five years.

“I just want whats fair and to live peacefully with enough to start my life again quietly with out having to join a witness protection program,” the letter continued.

Law enforcement has publicly addressed the ransom letters

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it knows about the ransom notes.

“All tips and leads are being taken seriously and are forwarded directly to our detectives, who are coordinating with the FBI,” a spokesperson for the agency said, according to The New York Post.

No suspects have been arrested so far. The letters were received by TMZ the same day Savannah Guthrie made her return to the Today show. She said her family has received several ransom notes that have been believed to be fake.

“I believe the two notes that we received that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real,” she said in a recent Today interview.
