Walmart Chicken Broth Recall: What To Know About It And The States Impacted

More than 2,000 cases of chicken broth sold at Walmart have been recalled in nine states due to packaging issues that could cause product spoilage.

The products were sold in 242 Walmart stores

The product, sold in 48-ounce family-sized cartons under the Great Value Chicken Broth label, was packaged in aseptic paper cartons that, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, may “compromise the sterility of the product, resulting in spoilage.”

In total, 2,023 cases have been recalled. The products were sold in 242 stores in nine states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas, Walmart said Monday morning, USA Today reported.

“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” Walmart said in a statement to USA Today. “As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we took action to remove all impacted (products) from … select, impacted stores. We are continuing to work with the supplier to investigate.”

Who initiated the recall?

The recall was initiated on Dec. 11 by the Canadian company Tree House Foods, Inc., in Oak Brook, British Columbia. All affected products were removed from the shelves at the listed Walmart locations by the end of December, according to the Walmart spokesperson, per Today.com.

What can customers do if they buy a recalled product?

Customers are advised to dispose of the affected products and can receive a refund by contacting their local Walmart with a receipt, photo or the product itself.

The recalled products include the following information on the packaging:
