Two individuals were apprehended by police after an incident of public indecency on a nightlife street in Changsha, China, according to reports from the police.
The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of March 15 on Jiefang West Street, known for its nightlife and usually crowded at night.
The police reported that a 35-year-old woman from out of town and a 36-year-old man were involved in public acts of indecency while surrounded by a huge crowd.
There are videos online showing the woman dancing in a provocative black outfit and then engaging in sexual intercourse with the man in public, with the huge crowd surrounding them cheering and recording.
The huge crowd also hindered traffic on the part of the road where the sexual intercourse took place, which caused chaos and made the incident go viral on Chinese social media apps such as Douyin and Weibo, and then on X and other international social media platforms.
The police said that the two were apprehended and charged with “picking quarrels and provoking trouble” while engaging in public acts of indecency and blocking part of the road.
The police also clarified rumors surrounding the woman’s gender identity, which caused much debate online.
The police said that the woman involved in the incident is indeed female.
The police also said that the two individuals involved in the incident are not celebrities and that only their demographic information has been made public.
The charge of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble” is considered a serious crime in China and is punishable depending on the severity of the offense.
