President Donald Trump’s latest side quest involves painting Air Force One. According to CNN, Trump has decided to paint the Air Force One in red, white, gold and dark blue.
Air Force One isn’t the only aircraft Trump wants to redesign
In addition to the Air Force One, Trump also plans to apply the new colors on the Qatari jet that was donated to the U.S., as well as on two other planes that are be used as Air Force One, CBS News reported. One of the redesigned aircrafts, the smaller Boeing C-32, carries the First Lady and other government officials.
The Qatari aircraft, which is worth $400 million, is expected to be ready for use by the summer, DW reported. Defense contractor L3Harris Technologies has been chosen to oversee the remodeling of the Qatari plane, per Reuters. The C-32, which is already painted, will likely be ready a lot sooner.
Trump first proposed redesigning Air Force One during his first term in office
However, the Biden administration halted the plans.
“Air Force One is going to be incredible,” Trump said during his first term, according to CNN. “It’s going to be the top of the line, the top in the world. And it’s going to be red, white and blue, which I think is appropriate.”
Since the Kennedy administration in the 1960s, Air Force One has been recognized by its iconic baby blue and white colors. Now, however, Trump wants the airplane to resemble his own personal Boeing 757. During the Biden administration, the Air Force revealed that dark colors cause problems for aircrafts.
“Further analysis concluded darker colors, among other factors, on the underside of the VC-25B aircraft might contribute to temperatures exceeding the current qualification limits of a small number of components,” an Air Force spokesperson said in 2022, per CNN.
