Trei Oliver uses fundraiser to take one more jab at North Carolina A&T football team

As the North Carolina Central football team hits the road for Indianapolis and the Circle City Classic against Norfolk State, the program is currently conducting a unique fundraiser that head coach Trei Oliver spoke of in a video shared by the Eagle athletic department on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I wanted to take time out before we have practice to thank our supporters that donated to our $66-dollar campaign,” Oliver said in a video posted Wednesday evening, alluding to NCCU’s 66-24 romp over bitter rival North Carolina A&T in the annual Aggie-Eagle Classic last Saturday.

Oliver went on to say that he would match the first $5,000 dollars donated, joking that “my wife still doesn’t know, so hopefully she doesn’t find out.”

Central begins MEAC play in the 40th Circle City Classic against Norfolk State on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. The Eagles have been picked to win the conference, while Norfolk State (2-3 in 2024) was selected fifth in the MEAC’s preseason polls.
