Arkansas-Pine Bluff wide receiver Javonnie Gibson has announced he plans to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.
“This has not been an easy decision, but I believe it is the right step for my personal growth, athletic development, and future aspirations,” said Gibson in a statement. “I am incredibly grateful for UAPB and the experiences, teammates, coaches, fans, and family who have supported me during my time here. The journey has been unforgettable, and I’m excited for what’s next.
Gibson transferred to UAPB this offseason after spending two seasons at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, producing 28 receptions for 403 yards and four touchdowns.
The redshirt sophomore was one of the most prolific receivers in the FCS this season, ranking second in the country with 1,215 receiving yards on 70 receptions and scoring nine touchdowns.
Gibson is one of four HBCU wide receivers at any level (one of two in the SWAC) to finish with over 1,000 receiving yards this season.
He recorded five 100-yard games, including a two-game stretch in which he recorded 180 and 183 receiving yards against Alcorn State and Prairie View A&M, respectively.
