Team USA sprinter with HBCU ties wins Olympic gold in women’s 4×400-meter relay

On the final day of track & field at the 2024 Summer Olympics, former Livingstone track & field athlete Quanera Hayes won gold as part of the American women’s 4×400-meter relay team.

In the first round of 4×400 relay heats, Hayes clocked a 51.27-second split on the first leg. The team finished with a time of 3:21.44 to win their heat and advance to the final.

In the final, Team USA cruised to victory, setting an American record with a time of 3:15.27 (0.10 seconds off the world record) to claim gold.

This is her first medal in her second career appearance at the Olympic Games.

The Livingstone alum previously qualified for the 2020 Olympics in the 400 meters after winning the event at the Olympic Trials over decorated athlete Allyson Felix.

She ended up finishing seventh in the 400 at the Olympics, running 50.88 seconds.
