SWAC leading rusher to sign with ACC school after jumping in transfer portal

Jackson State running back Ahmad Miller, who led the Southwestern Athletic Conference in rushing this past season, announced that he has committed to a Power Four program.

Miller shared on Wednesday that he decided to commit to Syracuse, posting a photo on X that confirmed his move to the ACC program.

The 5-foot-10, 210-pound back was one of the most productive players in HBCU football during the 2025 campaign.

He powered Jackson State’s offense with a league-best 1,054 rushing total and six touchdowns while earning first-team All-SWAC honors. Known for his blend of power and burst, Miller helped the Tigers rank among the conference’s top scoring offenses. He entered the transfer portal following Jackson State’s appearance in the SWAC Championship Game.

His transfer marks another key addition for Syracuse, which has prioritized adding proven playmakers to the Orange’s roster. Miller is expected to compete immediately for carries in a backfield that lost depth to graduation and the portal.

Miller’s move continues a growing trend of standout HBCU players receiving opportunities at Power Four programs. Earlier this week, Miller’s backfield mate, Travis Terrell Jr., committed to Purdue. Delaware State running back Marquis Gillis is headed to Arizona State and Jalen Jones, the All-SWAC wideout, committed to Texas Tech.
