Southern University unveiled its much-anticipated depth chart for Saturday’s season opener at the MEAC/SWAC Challenge.
The Jaguars are poised to make a statement in the 2025 football season with key players taking center stage against MEAC power North Carolina Central.
Jalen Woods has been named the starting quarterback, according to the depth chart obtained by Louisiana sports reporter Brendon Fairbairn. He is expected to steer the team with his arm and leadership skills.
Joining Woods in the backfield is former LSU running back Trey Holly. Holly’s experience at a powerhouse program is anticipated to bring a new dynamic to Southern’s ground game.
The path to Southern has been anything but straightforward for Holly. After setting Louisiana prep records at Union Parish High School with an astonishing 10,523 rushing yards and 160 touchdowns, Holly spent his freshman season at LSU in 2023, scoring a memorable 67-yard touchdown against Army.
His trajectory changed course in early 2024, however, when he was arrested in Farmerville, Louisiana, and faced legal challenges due to an attempted murder charge.
That charge has since been dropped.
With Woods at the helm and Holly powering the rushing attack, Southern looks ready to challenge their opponents and capture early-season momentum.
The game promises to showcase a blend of talent and determination as Southern seeks to kick off their season on a high note. Stay tuned for more updates and game analysis as the Jaguars take the field this Saturday.
