With Saturday night’s Boombox Classic fast approaching, preparations are just about finished ahead of the latest installment of the Jackson State and Southern battle.
For Southern’s first-year head coach Terrence Graves, one way he has gotten himself psyched up for the game is listening to a song by the opposing band.
“I love playing there. I get fired up just thinking about it,” Graves said during his weekly press conference, adding that “I even listen to ‘Get Ready’ on YouTube to get fired up.”

“If you’re a competitor,” Graves continued, “That’s the kind of atmosphere you want to be in.”
Southern and Jackson State have met 70 times over their illustrious histories. The Jaguars held a 35-33 lead (two wins were vacated), but the Tigers have won the last four meetings, including the 2022 SWAC championship game.
