Cori Broadus is stepping into the spotlight on her own.
As the only daughter of rap legend Snoop Dogg and his wife, Shante Broadus, Cori, 25, invites viewers into her world in a new docuseries, sharing her most vulnerable moments alongside her family, friends and fiancé, Wayne Deuce, as they plan the next chapter of their lives.
The realities of planning a wedding in a short time
In the new three-part E! docuseries, Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story, the couple reveals the ups and downs of planning a wedding and what it takes to make it all come together. Yet, unexpected challenges can throw everything off course.
When asked about the inspiration behind the new series, Cori explained that she wanted to maintain some normalcy and show that she and Wayne aren’t perfect; they’re two people with real-life challenges who navigate them together.
“I’m not afraid to show my good days and my bad days,” Cori said in an exclusive interview with Blavity. “With me and Wayne being in a relationship, that is now a part of my life, and so we would always just post things of us like going to dinner or like, you know, just posting everything, you know like a social media couple would do.”
‘You only get this opportunity once’
Cori, who had a stroke earlier this year, opens up about this challenging experience in the series and how it led her to question whether she and Wayne should postpone their wedding altogether.
“We just wanted to just capture all of that and let people know that wedding planning isn’t just Say Yes to the Dress, ‘yes, I do.’ It’s a lot that goes on in the background, and I feel like we wanted to share that with the world to maybe help the next person,” Cori said.
The soon-to-be husband and wife had only four months to plan the wedding of their dreams. According to Cori, transitioning from a people-pleasing mindset and putting herself first was tough, as she wanted to ensure everyone felt comfortable during the planning process.
“I shouldn’t have thought like that because, at the end of the day, this is my wedding, and you only get this opportunity once. Not, you only get it once, but you should probably, you know what I mean, experience this one time. So, I think it was just trying to please everyone,” Cori explained, noting that choosing the right dress for her body type and deciding who should receive a wedding invitation was also no easy feat.
Cori’s close-knit family and their role in her and Wayne’s journey
Snoop has often shared glimpses of his family on television. In 2007, the “Gin and Juice” rapper had his show, Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood, featuring his wife and their three children: Corde, now 30, Cordell, 27, and Cori. He also has a son, Julian, who is 26, from a previous relationship.
Family is integral to Cori’s life, particularly her mother and father, who guided her through wedding planning while offering valuable life advice. Reflecting on their support, she shared how her parents always support her and Wayne, regardless of their paths.
“My mom and dad may tell me and Wayne to do something they did, but it may not work for us, you know?” Cori said. “So, kind of just telling us to navigate and just stay strong, and stick by each other, pray, and yeah, that’s about it.”
Managing wedding costs with smart investments
In a recent episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, Snoop revealed that his most expensive gift to his daughter was $1 million for her wedding. Cori was “shocked” by the high cost of wedding planning, but she and Wayne decided to allocate half of the funds to the wedding and the other half to investments.
“I feel like you could have this extravagant wedding, but you still go home to nothing, or you’re still broke,” Cori shared, adding that she and Wayne learned to be “smart as a couple and as individuals.”
Building a legacy before saying ‘I do’
The couple is making smart moves ahead of their wedding. They are real estate developers who buy and flip homes. They also have a cosmetic company, Choc Factory. Cori has even dabbled in music, releasing her EP, Journals to Johnny, earlier this month.
With the series finale airing on Thursday, Cori shared her hopes for what viewers will take away from her and Wayne’s journey to matrimony.
“I feel like God gives us certain things to build our character,” Cori said.
She continued, “A lot of times we pray, ‘God, give me strength,’ ‘God, give me this.’ But He’s going to put you through things to give you that strength; you know what I mean?”
“Don’t be so hard on yourself, you know? Life is gonna life, but you got it. Just take it one step at a time, and everything will fall into place the way that it’s supposed to,” Cori concluded.
The docuseries’ third part airs Thursday at 10 p.m. on E!
