Ruby Franke Hulu True Crime Docuseries Announced As Her Daughter Shari Gives Interview About Book

A once-popular mommy vlogger turns into a convicted child abuser in Hulu’s upcoming docuseries Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke. The three-part series premieres Feb. 27 on Hulu.

Directed by Olly Lambert and produced by Passion Pictures, the docuseries promises an in-depth look at the case, blending interviews with exclusive footage to shed light on a story that captivated—and horrified—the public.

The rise and fall of Ruby Franke

The docuseries chronicles Franke’s journey from a celebrated vlogger portraying an idyllic family life to a shocking reality of abuse and scandal. Her YouTube channel, which once boasted 2.5 million subscribers, became a facade masking troubling events.

As the synopsis reveals:

When popular vlogger Ruby Franke is arrested for child abuse in August 2023, it quickly becomes one of the biggest trending stories in America. For years, the Frankes’ YouTube channel had documented a wholesome, happy family life, with 2.5 million subscribers tuning in at its peak. But happy families are rarely what they seem. As the cracks began to show, the family turned to counselor Jodi Hildebrandt for guidance – and rapidly found themselves trapped in a nightmare. Only the Frankes know what went on inside their home. This series marks the first time Shari and Chad, the Frankes’ two eldest adult children, and Kevin, Ruby’s husband, will share their story in depth on camera. With exclusive access to the Frankes, their friends and neighbors, and over a thousand hours of their YouTube channel’s unseen footage, Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke cuts through the social media reaction to explore the untold story behind the Ruby Franke case: part family tragedy, part coming-of-age narrative, part tale of our times about the perils of life lived online.

Shari Franke recently spoke out about her experience

Ruby’s eldest daughter, Shari, spoke to ABC News about her tumultuous relationship with her mother and her upcoming memoir, The House of My Mother: A Daughter’s Quest for Freedom.

“Sometimes I’ll see myself in the mirror and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh. I look like her’ or ‘I sound like her,’ but I don’t wanna be anything like her,” Shari said.

She described the physical abuse she endured, including being slapped and having her hand slammed on a piano during practice. As Shari grew older, she said the abuse became more psychological, leaving lasting scars.

Both Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt pleaded guilty in 2023 to four counts of child abuse involving two of Franke’s children. Each was sentenced to four consecutive terms of one to 15 years in prison.
