Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s lawyer has filed a petition to revoke the polio vaccine. Filing his petition to the Food and Drug Administration, Aaron Siri argued that vaccines are dangerous. Much like Kennedy, who is President-elect Donald Trump’s presumptive nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services, Siri has a long history of fighting back against vaccines.
According to Salon, Siri has already filed 13 other petitions to stop more vaccines. His petitions include efforts to stop vaccines for hepatitis B and COVID-19. Kennedy spoke up in support of Siri when he recently appeared on The Highwire with Del Bigtree podcast.
“I love Aaron Siri,” Kennedy said on the show, per Salon. “There’s nobody who’s been a greater asset to the medical freedom movement than him.”
While conspiracy theorists continue their effort to stop vaccines, scientists are fighting back against misinformation. In 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention launched an investigation when a high number of polio cases emerged at a Hasidic Jewish community in Rockland County, New York, which is home to many anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists, Salon reported.
Dr. Peter Salk expressed concern about the ongoing conspiracy theories as he spoke about the legacy of his late father Dr. Jonas Salk, who developed the polio vaccine in 1955. Speaking with Salon in 2023, Salk said his father would be alarmed if he saw the spread of anti-vaccine theories in today’s world.
“His whole commitment was protecting the population from infectious diseases,” Salk said in an interview with Salon.
On Friday, Senator Elizabeth Warren debunked Kennedy’s theories when she tweeted, “Say goodbye to your smile and say hello to polio – that’s what’s on the horizon if Robert F. Kennedy Jr. becomes the Secretary of Health and Human Services.”
Siri and Kennedy are partnering with organizations who also agree with their conspiracies. One of those organizations is Informed Consent Action Network, which supports the theory that vaccines cause autism and other health issues.
