CNN’s NewsNight host Abby Phillip accused Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. of ripping off former first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative, which she launched in 2010 to promote healthy eating among children.

During Wednesday night’s broadcast, Phillip aired a clip of RFK Jr.’s post on X, formerly Twitter, in which he shared a promotional video for his “Make America Healthy Again” program.
“I’ve teamed up with Kid Rock to deliver two simple messages to the American people: GET ACTIVE + EAT REAL FOOD,” Kennedy posted on X.
Phillip said in a video shared on the social platform, “There it is, RFK Jr. and Kid Rock in a promotional video for an HHS initiative. The message is get active and eat real food, but if that sounds very familiar to you, that’s because it is. Here’s Michelle Obama’s ‘Let’s Move!’ website from 2010, which also encouraged children to ‘get active and eat healthy.’”

“Something Republicans, at least back then, took issue with,” Phillip added, before playing clips of several Republican on-air talent and legislators who shared their disapproval of Obama’s program.
After the clip, Phillip had some questions for other panelists on the show about RFK Jr. and Kid Rock‘s new video.
“Look, they’re both right, but will conservatives and Republicans ever admit that they were wrong to lampoon Michelle Obama for basically common sense?” The Daily Beast reported Phillip asked NewsNight panelist Xochitl Hinojosa, a former communications director for the Democratic National Committee.
“Absolutely not,” Hinojosa replied, adding, “I think that Michelle Obama’s initiative was geared toward families and children, making sure people are active and eating healthy. This RFK video, or whatever this is, was a vanity project.”
Hinojosa also pointed out that while Obama’s program was aimed at helping all Americans, RFK Jr.’s version was geared toward his former lover, Olivia Nuzzi, who was fired from several editorial roles based on the details revealed about their relationship during the 2024 presidential campaign, per The Daily Beast.
“It wasn’t about anyone eating healthy. It was not even geared toward our kids. Honestly, I think it was geared toward Olivia Nuzzi at this point,” Hinojosa said.
