Report: Howard head coach Larry Scott is expected to join SEC coaching staff

Howard football coach Larry Scott could be making his way to SEC country, following reports that he is expected to be hired as a tight ends coach at Auburn.

This would end a five-year tenure for Scott as Howard’s head coach, finishing with a 23-37 overall record, and a 12-14 record in MEAC competition.

He led the Bison to a share of the MEAC title in 2022 before winning the conference outright the following year for the first time in 30 years, clinching a berth in the Celebration Bowl.

In the two seasons that followed their Celebration Bowl appearance, the Bison combined for a 9-15 overall record, including a 3-7 conference record.

Before taking on the role of head coach at Howard, Scott served multiple stints as a tight ends coach over a span of 13 years. These include stops at his alma mater South Florida, Miami, Tennessee, and Florida.

He has also served as an offensive line coach and running backs coach at South Florida and as an offensive coordinator at Tennessee.

Scott got his first head coaching experience as an interim head coach for Miami in 2015 following the firing of Al Golden. He led the team to a 4-2 in the interim and a berth in the Sun Bowl.

The Bison’s head coach will be joining a coaching staff headed by Alex Golesh, who most recently served as head coach of South Florida for three seasons.
