Report: Clinton Portis is no longer DeSean Jackson’s running back coach

Delaware State‘s running attack was tops in all of FCS last season under former Washington and Denver All-Pro Clinton Portis.

In 2026, another former NFL running back will oversee the Hornets’ running back room.

Steve Broussard, a veteran of nine NFL seasons and a coach for more than 20 years, has been hired as DSU’s new running backs coach, according to FootballScoop.

Broussard played from 1990 to 1998 with the Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks, rushing for 2,625 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also caught 126 passes for 882 yards and three touchdowns.

He has served as running backs coach at his Alma mater, Washington State, as well as Portland, UCLA, SMU and recently Cal Poly.

Portis departs after leading the Hornets to an FCS-high 291 yards per game. Marquis Gillis and James Jones combined for over 2000 yards rushing under Portis’ watch. Both have since transferred: Gillis to Arizona State, Jones to New Mexico State.
