North Carolina Central’s LeVelle Moton sounds off on rising AAU costs

The price of youth sports has spun out of control for some time now and Saturday afternoon, North Carolina Central men’s basketball coach LeVelle Moton sounded off about the rising costs.

“We have gotten to a point where AAU events are charging $20 for parking, & $40 per family member to watch a 12-year-old play for 30 minutes,” Moton posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “….This is EGREGIOUS!!!”

When asked how to get the pricing of AAU events under control, Moton offered two suggestions.

“1. Sanctioned events MUST have a parking and entry fee cap…2. Teams aren’t allowed to compete if entry fee exceeds market rate of $10.”

While it is unclear if any governing body will hear Moton’s calls for reform, he can take solace in the fact many AAU basketball parents will agree with him about the costs of youth sports needing to be scaled back.
