Howard, Norfolk State. Norfolk State, Howard.
We believe you two know each other already.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Bison and the Spartans will meet in the MEAC women’s championship game following semifinal victories for both teams in the conference tournament.
Two key transfers – Jasha Clinton and Cire Worley – were the standouts as No. 3 seed Norfolk State held off 2nd-seeded Maryland Eastern Shore 60-51.
The win gives the Spartans a chance to defend their MEAC title once again as they look for a four-peat.
Clinton, previously of Chesapeake Bay rival Hampton, scored 19 points and snatched four steals, while Worley, who joined head coach Jermaine Woods from Coppin State, scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Norfolk State (18-13) trailed the Fighting Hawks 14-11 after the first quarter but outscored them 20-11 in the second quarter and held on the rest of the way.
Howard once again won by a sizable margin, defeating No. 4 seed Coppin State 65-50 to secure another trip to the championship game, which the Bison will be looking to win for the first time since 2022.
Freshman guard Ariella Henigan sparked Howard’s offense, leading all scorers with 22 points and making four of five three-point attempts.
Conference player of the year Zennia Thomas added 14 points and nine rebounds while senior center Nile Miller stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, eight steals and five rebounds.
The MEAC women’s basketball championship game will take place Saturday March 14 at 4 p.m. on ESPN News.
