Morgan State men win another late one, this time at Howard’s expense

For the second weekend in a row, Morgan State waited until almost the last second but sent an opposing MEAC crowd home disappointed.

Eugene Alvin’s layup with 5 seconds left boosted the Bears to a 78-77 win at Howard, one week after they defeated Delaware State 80-79 in Dover.

The Bears are now 3-2 in MEAC play and 7-13 overall.

Morgan trailed by as many as nine points after a Cedric Taylor III jumper three minutes into the second half gave Howard a 47-38 lead.

The Bears clawed back into the game behind the guard trio of Rob Lawson (team-high 24 points), Alfred Worrell Jr. (23 points) and Elijah Davis (16 points) and took their first lead of the second half on a David Bumpass layup to make it 76-75.

Cam Gillus made two free throws to put Howard back in front, but after a timeout, Davis found Alvin near the basket, where he deposited the winning points.

The Bison rushed up the floor but their last second attempt didn’t draw iron, and they fell to 2-3 in MEAC play. Taylor led Howard and all scorers with 29 points while Bryce Harris added 23 points.
