Michael Vick short story nominated for an NAACP Image Award

Voting ends tomorrow for an ESPN feature story, highlighting Michael Vick’s journey to becoming Norfolk State’s head football coach, which is being nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

The documentary known as College Gameday: Michael Vick is a short-form piece taking an inside look into the life and career of the Pro Bowl quarterback, nominated in the  Outstanding Short Form Series or Special category.

Competitors in the award’s category include Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show and Patti Labelle’s performance on Noochie’s Live from the “From the Front Porch” series.

The ESPN documentary highlights events such as Vick’s upbringing in Newport News, his standout career at Virginia Tech, becoming the first black quarterback taken first in the NFL Draft, and his recovery following his 2007 arrest.

The documentary features perspectives from influential figures in the state of Virginia, including Grammy-award-winning rap group Clipse and Virginia State Sen. Aaron Rouse.

In addition to the ESPN feature, Vick has provided an inside look into his first year as head coach at Norfolk State with his docuseries The Coach Vick Experience, executive produced by Texas Southern alum Michael Strahan.
