Social media influencer Mia Monroe refuses to take back her stance on Charlie Kirk after facing backlash for her past comments relating to his death. According to Monroe, her statements were directed at addressing the issue of gun violence in America, rather than mocking his death.
Monroe sparked outrage on September 10th when she posted an Instagram Story that read: “I guess if the dead kids don’t make you angry about gun violence, at least Charlie Kirk brought it out of you. Thoughts & prayers though!” The message went viral, and people were outraged about its insensitive timing at a national moment of grief. Monroe stands by her comments.
“Yes, I absolutely stand by what I said,” Monroe recently told Where Is The Buzz.
What happened on September 10th?
Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, died on September 10, 2025, while giving a speech at an event being held at Utah Valley University as part of the Fall 2025 American Comeback Tour, which featured a debate and a speaker series hosted by Turning Point USA.
A video clip of Charlie Kirk’s shooting quickly went viral and dominated news reports for that day. Messages and reactions from politicians soon followed.
That morning, yet again, a school shooting took place in the United States. According to Monroe, this event remained integral to her posting.
Mia Monroe breaks down her thoughts on Charlie Kirk.
Monroe explains that her position stems from her family background and attending private Catholic schools. Monroe disputes that Kirk can be considered a moral icon after his passing.
“I don’t believe Kirk was this righteous follower of Christ that his fans pinned him to be,” Monroe added. “I believe that, similar to other red-pill content creators, he was just a grifter.”
She describes Kirk as propagating thoughts that are damaging to marginalized groups and as carrying out practices that violate Christian values.
“He constantly spread hate and bigotry against marginalized groups of people and couldn’t even follow the Golden Rule of the Bible,” Monroe said, citing Luke 6:31: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
What was Mia Monroe’s goal?
According to Monroe, her message on Instagram had no intention to make fun of Kirk’s death.
“As much as I disliked Kirk, my main point of that comment wasn’t even to mock his death,” she continued. “It was to shine a light on the hypocrisy of people mourning him while completely glazing over yet another school shooting that occurred on that same morning.”
Monroe highlights that mass shooting instances, including child-related ones, have become normalized within the United States.
“I think we need to stop normalizing gun violence in the states,” Monroe added. “Plenty of other countries have found solutions that prevent their youth from becoming victims of tragedies like we frequently see here.”
Criticism Regarding “Thoughts and Prayers”
Monroe finds the issue very personal for her and relates it to her fears about generations.
“I don’t think any child should have to fear going to school. It terrifies me to think that my nieces and nephews are growing up in a time where ‘thoughts and prayers’ are the only solutions being made to prevent these kinds of tragedies.”
Despite the ongoing backlash, Monroe maintains that it hasn’t impacted her approach to addressing political or societal issues on her online platforms.
