Mia Khalifa commended Spain for not allowing the U.S. to use Spanish military bases for operations related to Israeli strikes on Iran.
Khalifa celebrated this moment with a small cultural gesture, saying she was playing music by Spanish reggaeton artist Bad Gyal.
“Streaming badgyal because Spain didn’t let Netanyahu land on their soil,” Mia Khalifa said on social media platform X.
Spain revealed the U.S. won’t use its military bases for operations against Iran.
The weekend saw Spain announce that it wasn’t allowing, and won’t allow, the U.S. to use joint military bases on Spanish soil for operations related to the ongoing strikes on Iran.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said on public TV on Monday that Spain hadn’t given its nod for the use of its military bases for the operations of the military campaign against Iran.
“Based on all the information I have, the bases are not being used for this military operation,” Albares said.
The U.S. military operates from the Rota naval base and the Morón air base, both in Spain, under a joint use agreement with Spain.
Although the U.S. military operates from the base, the base remains under Spanish sovereignty.
The Spanish government has stated that the operation must be carried out with the agreement of the U.S. and Spain and in accordance with international law.
“The Spanish government will not authorise the use of the bases for anything beyond the agreement or inconsistent with the United Nations,” Albares said.
Sánchez blasts strikes as “dangerous.”
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has blasted the U.S. and Israel strikes on Iran that began on Saturday, calling the operation an “unjustified” and “dangerous military intervention.”
This is a major shift in the U.S. stance on the escalating situation.
Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles has stated that the Spanish military base will not be used to support the operation.
“The bases will not provide support, except if, in a given case, it were necessary from a humanitarian perspective,” Robles said.
The Spanish government has condemned Iran’s strikes on other countries in the Gulf region.
