This time around, it does seem like Melania Trump is putting herself first. The forCNN reports that the First Lady is “unlikely” to return to the White House full-time should her husband Donald Trump win a second presidential term, CNN rews only contributes to rumor orumorsroubled marriage between the pair, as Melania has kept an incredibly low profile through Trump’s presidential campaign and often seemed very detached from his political endeavors.
While she has publicly appeared at milestone events, including the Republican National Convention and Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden, Melania has kept largely to herself since leaving the White House in 2021. However, as Trump positions himself for a possible 2024 win, the former First Lady’s role seems to be evolving, and it might not include full-time duties in Washington.
Sources close to the Trump family told CNN that conversations about Melania’s role as First Lady “remain ongoing,” but for the time being, she will have her set of priorities and a public platform much like during her first tenure; that will mean attending major events, such as state dinners or high-profile events, but minus the daily tasks the stay in the White House would entail.
The marital indifference reported by Donald Trump himself to his wife’s absence further fuels the notion that their marriage is less than the picture-perfect union that some might have in mind. As these sources say, there is “no internal backlash” within the Trump team regarding Melania’s decision to step back, insinuating perhaps both parties might be quite all right with a hands-off approach to her role in a possible second administration.
For Melania, it seems placing herself first means leaving room for her life that does not include going back into the public eye or the political daily grind. Certainly, a Trump White House would look different than before for her role, and for now, it is anyone’s guess if she will ever fully embrace being First Lady full-time.
