Mekhi Hagens, UAPB quarterback, hits the transfer portal for ‘personal growth’

Mekhi Hagens, one of the top quarterbacks in the SWAC, has decided to enter the transfer portal after a breakout 2024 season.

“This is not an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right step for my personal growth, athletic development, and future aspirations,” Hagens, the Arkansas-Pine Bluff quarterback, wrote in a message posted to X along with a highlight film package of his best plays.

In 12 games this past season, Hagens, a redshirt junior, threw for 2,541 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three rushing scores as the league for an Arkansas-Pine Bluff offense that ranked fifth in the SWAC. Hagans himself finished only behind Florida A&M quarterback Daniel Richardsons in passing yards, touchdowns, and passing yards per game.
