Meagan Good is addressing skin bleaching rumors tied to a botched treatment and discussing how she refused to let the backlash define her.
How did Good bleach her skin?
On Wednesday, the actor appeared on The Breakfast Club and addressed the incident, saying unintentional changes to her appearance led fans to accuse her of deliberately bleaching her skin, Complex reported.
In 2019, she went to an unlicensed esthetician in Los Angeles for anti-aging treatments. When the esthetician asked about treating the dark spots on Good’s face, the 44-year-old said it was “natural contour,” but the woman said it would be helpful for her skin.
“I start using the product and I instantly see that I’m getting lighter,” she said. “I give it a few weeks and I look so pale and so crazy and I go and shoot this show in New York and … I just look white. I just look crazy. As a Black woman, I would never do that to myself and it broke my heart to think that young Black girls would think that I did that or that I don’t like myself. Why would I do that all of a sudden at 39 years old? That’s crazy.”
Good on navigating the skin bleaching rumors: ‘This is an answered prayer’
Good said she didn’t think it was as serious as it was at the time, but it was “humiliating” because she didn’t have proof to defend herself, like in prior instances. She said she had to accept that people would think she did it to herself. The Think Like a Man star also said that she prayed to God for guidance in the situation.
“In that time, I was just praying and praying and praying, and crying, and was like, ‘Lord, why would you let this happen to me?’ And then I realized, I was like, ‘This is an answered prayer.’ The answer to the prayer is you’re so concerned, you kept saying, ‘Lord, help me not care what people think. Lord help me not to be so concerned with this. Lord, release me from these feelings.’ Now you don’t have a choice,” she explained.
Good continued, “You still have to live your life. You still have to have a quality of life. And if that’s what it is, are you going to be miserable and sad on the floor, or are you going to have the most joy in your life? Once I made the decision to move forward, that’s when my color started coming back.”
Good and her husband recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary
In March, she and her husband, actor Jonathan Majors, celebrated their first wedding anniversary, according to People.
Good shared a loving post on her Instagram, including more ceremony photos of the couple.
“The greatest love story I’ve ever known… You. Changed. My. Life. .. in every way I’ve ever dreamed ..and hoped for .. in ways I didn’t know were tangible,” Good wrote in a Instagram post. “I love you. With every breath I take ..and then- whatever is next ; I will still love you eternally . I pray our spirits existence- exists alongside each other inside of God forever.”
“Happy Number 1 My Love of Life,” she continued. Good signed off by adding, “Mrs Majors.”
