Mary Cosby’s Son Dies: Robert Crobsy Jr., The ‘RHOSLC’ Star’s Only Child Was 23

Robert Cosby Jr., the son of reality TV star Mary Cosby, died at age 23 in Utah. A Salt Lake City Police Department spokesperson told Page Six that Robert was found dead on Wednesday after officers “responded to an overdose call.”

Mary expressed the family’s sorrow in a statement to TMZ, saying, “our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord.”

“Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow,” the statement continued, per TMZ.

Robert Cosby Jr’s struggles were documented in ‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’

Robert made a few appearances on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. During Season 6, one episode showed Robert sharing with his mother that he was still facing challenges while trying to complete his 30-day rehab program.

“I’m not in that dark place, but, like, it’s still there, if that makes sense,” he said on the show, Page Six reported.

Another episode chronicled Robert’s relapse. Mary opened up about her son’s challenges when she revealed that he was arrested for allegedly violating a restraining order from his ex-wife, Alexiana Smokoff, who filed for divorce in November 2025.

“[Her family] filed a restraining order against him, and he went back anyway, thinking that she want[ed] him to come back and save her,” Mary said on the show, per Page Six. “I don’t know where he’s getting that from … delusional.”

The RHOSLC star also said she would step back so that Robert could “learn and he can make his own decisions.”

“I’d rather him be there than dead, you know?” she added at the time.

Robert Cosby Jr. showed ‘deep regret’ over his past behavior

After spending two months in jail, Robert was released on Feb. 3, 2026, after pleading guilty. Mary said she was talking to her son on the phone regularly while he was in jail. She also said her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., was sending lots of books to their son.

In a statement to People, Robert’s lawyer said he showed “deep regret regarding his prior actions and acknowledges that his past behavior demonstrates poor judgment.”
