Martha Stewart Under Fire for Condemning Cheating Men While Admitting to Her Own Affair

The irrepressible businesswoman and TV icon Martha Stewart is never one to mince words, and her latest revelations will confirm that she isn’t pulling any punches.

An audacious 83-year-old Stewart is leaping back into the spotlight in the forthcoming Netflix documentary entitled Martha, directed by RJ Cutler. The documentary will portray the highs and lows of her career, including her infamous conviction for tax fraud to those complicated aspects of her personal life.

Surprisingly, in the documentary trailer, it was claimed that Stewart had been concealing a bombshell of a confession for decades: she cheated on her first and only husband, Andrew Stewart, in the early parts of their marriage. Most are surprised to hear it because, until the release of the documentary, details of their marriage, which ended in divorce in 1990, had remained mostly under wraps.

One of the more stunning moments of the trailer finds Stewart seated with her trademark elegance, speaking about extramarital affairs. “If you’re married and your husband starts to cheat on you, he’s a piece of sh**,” she remarks frankly. “Get out of that marriage.” The producer inquires further, “Didn’t you have an affair early on?” Stewart responds with little trepidation: “Yeah, but I don’t think Andy ever knew about that.”

The two married in 1961, and Stewart’s career shot into orbit during the ensuing decades. Behind the scenes, though, the marriage was having its struggles, and the two remained separated since 1987 before finally divorcing three years later. Stewart’s career shone bright as she built a domestic empire, showcasing her talents in everything from cooking to home decor.

After her divorce, Stewart’s love life still captured headlines. Among others, she dated Silence of the Lambs actor Anthony Hopkins and billionaire software developer Charles Simonyi. At one point, she and Hopkins had broken up. In an interview once, Stewart joked, “I couldn’t get past the Hannibal Lecter,” referring to the terrifying character Hopkins had played.

The new documentary about Martha not only shows Stewart’s personal side but traces her rise and very public fall after her conviction for insider trading. With characteristic candor, Stewart reflects on the choices of a life that both privately and professionally make for rare insight into the woman behind the persona.

This new series, Martha, hits the streaming platform later this month, promising to give fans an unfiltered look at Stewart’s journey, of course, with the type of bold advice only she can dish out.
