Le’Andria Johnson Arrested: Gospel Singer And BET’s ‘Sunday Best’ Winner Charged With Public Intoxication

Gospel singer Le’Andria Johnson, who won season three of BET‘s Sunday Best, was arrested and charged with public intoxication in Greenville, South Carolina. According to the Greenville News, Greenville Police Department Sergeant Diana Munoz said Johnson was causing a disturbance while carrying an open alcohol container on a public street near a restaurant.

Police said they arrived at the restaurant BrickTop after customers complained that Johnson was screaming at people who were eating at the establishment. Police added that Johnson gave a styrofoam cup to a man who was with her in attempt to hide the drink as officers approached.

Allegedly, Johnson smelled like alcohol and had slurred speech. They also said her cup had an amber-colored liquid that smelled like alcohol. On Tuesday, Johnson was released with after paying a $257.50 bond.

Johnson, who took home a Grammy in 2012 for Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance, is best known for her songs “Better Days,” which boasts nearly 10 million Spotify streams.

On Wednesday, Johnson released a statement, apologizing to the Greenville community.

“To all of my family, my friends, and my supporters, I just want to say thank you for your continued prayers and love. I do see all of the text messages and all of the phone calls,” Johnson said in a YouTube video. “I’m just taking this time now to really just ‘woosah.’ This (alcoholism) is a daily walk, and this has been a daily walk for me for some time, I’m yet still growing.”

Johnson has been open about her struggles with alcoholism. In an 2019 episode of OWN’s Iyanla Fix My Life, the singer shared that she had participated in a 30-day rehab program, as well as spent 30 days in jail after driving under the influence.
