On Friday, Khalid’s ex-boyfriend, Hugo D. Almonte, apologized in a since-deleted post after revealing his past relationship with the singer.
“I’ve been reflecting deeply on everything that’s happened, and it’s time I speak up. I’ve seen the comments, the backlash, and the disappointment. I understand why people are upset, and I take full responsibility for my actions. I made a mistake— a serious one. I outed someone, and that was wrong. No matter the circumstances, it wasn’t my place to reveal something so personal. For that, I am truly sorry,” Almonte said per Vibe.
Blavity reported that Almonte shared a photo of the pair and made accusations that a “gay R&B singer” once “tried to set me up and lie that I broke into his house.”
Initially, fans were confused by the news of his sexuality and asked the Sincere singer for clarification.
“Wait hope Mr Khalid isn’t GEHHH!” one tweeted.
“I am! And that’s okay,” Khalid responded.
A few days later, Khalid also shared a video addressing Almonte’s accusations, saying they dated four to five years ago and that he hadn’t publicly accused anyone of breaking into his house.
Khalid’s fans reacted to Almonte’s accusations of a turbulent relationship, with many believing the OnlyFans model outed Khalid for clout to gain listeners for his music.
“Hugo D Almonte you will start losing your hair in 3 weeks. AND NOBODY STREAMING THAT MUSIC!” one wrote with a meme GIF.
Another poked fun at Almonte, tweeting, “You know what? hugo d almonte’s music isn’t that bad, in response to a video of a rapper with a caption, “kendrick could never do this.”
“Khalid dropping two singles a week after the Hugo scandal is giving paid stunt, ” someone else tweeted with a meme video.
In related news, Khalid is dropping new music on Friday.
On Sunday, he tweeted a photo of him and his “Love Lies” collaborator Normani with the caption, “PERSONAL @Normani 12/6 .” On Monday, he shared one with Nigerian singer Ayra Starr for their song “Make It Up to You.” Then, on Tuesday, he posted one with Chlöe, captioned “MIA.”
