It was the end of an era for Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, who said goodbye to the UCLA gym during the Bruins’ final home meet at Pauley Pavilion on Saturday night. According to The Los Angeles Times, Chiles did what she does best — dominating both the balance beam and floor exercise — while a UCLA record crowd of 13,089 cheered her on. Here’s a closer look at Chiles’ farewell to Pauley Pavilion and the notable figures who came to support her final meet as a UCLA Bruin.
Chiles secured the all-around title with an impressive 39.800 and near-perfect scores across the board
The UCLA gymnastics team took on rival Utah in their final home meet, coming away with a 197.850-197.400 victory. According to BET, Chiles claimed the all-around title for the ninth consecutive week, scoring an impressive 39.800 and earning 9.950s on every apparatus.
The meet saw Chiles return her Yurchenko double full on vault, sticking the landing for a 9.950 that thrilled the crowd. Her floor routine set to ’90s R&B hits was just as exciting for attendees, who roared when she showed off her signature moves.
It was a perfect capstone to Chiles’ senior season, cementing her status as one of the sport’s standout performers.
Now that the regular season is over, Chiles and the Bruins are turning their attention to the postseason. The team will travel to Champaign, Illinois, for the Big Ten Championship on March 21, where they will face Michigan, Michigan State and Minnesota.
Chiles expressed confidence that the team’s momentum will continue in Illinois, The Los Angeles Times reported.
“We bring Pauley everywhere. I am Pauley,” Chiles said, according to the outlet. “The music, the vibes, the everything — we are Pauley, and that’s why it’s so easy for us to walk into an arena and be like, ‘You know what, this is our house.’”
She added, “If we’re the best show in LA, we can be the best show in the world.”
After retiring her Bruin leotard, Chiles plans to focus on her SHERO Athlete Collective, which offers mentorship programs for female athletes, NBC Los Angeles reported. Beyond sports, she is exploring opportunities in acting and fashion, with aspirations of one day attending the Met Gala.
Celebrities like Normani, Chloe Bailey and Winnie Harlow attended the meet to support Chiles
Among the Bruins fans cheering Chiles on were several celebrity attendees, including Normani, Chloe Bailey and Winnie Harlow, who sat courtside to watch the gymnast cap off a near-flawless season, BET reported.
During Chiles’ floor routine, Normani leapt from her seat and danced along, catching Chiles’ eye and sharing a sweet moment with the star gymnast.
Love Island alum Olandria Carthen and professional athlete Lexie Brown also attended the Bruins’ last home meet to support Chiles.
