Jonathan Majors, the actor whose rise to stardom was halted after he was found guilty of assaulting and harassing his former girlfriend in 2023, is marking his return to Hollywood in a controversial move by partnering with MAGA streamer The Daily Wire as well as Bonfire Legend. According to Deadline, which was the first news outlet to report Majors’ comeback, the actor is set to star in an untitled action movie produced by the pair. The film, which also counts Majors as an executive producer, began production this week.
Here’s more on the movie and Majors’ return to Hollywood.
Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro is producing the untitled film
The untitled film, Majors’ first in four years, was written by Kyle Rankin, who is also directing. The film is rumored to echo ’80s and ’90s action films like Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers, and production began in South Carolina in late February.
Conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro and Cinestate founder Dallas Sonnier are producing alongside fellow producers Travis Mills, Lillian Campbell and Sydney Aucreman.
Sharing his new collaboration with Majors, Shapiro wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “You’re not going to BELIEVE what we’re doing,” the Los Angeles Times reported.
He echoed his enthusiasm on Facebook writing, “This movie is going to be WILD.”
Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment in December 2023
Majors’ once-promising career — which included roles in Lovecraft Country, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Da 5 Bloods and Creed III — unraveled three years ago following his arrest in connection to a domestic dispute. In the aftermath, he was dropped by his talent manager and publicist and removed from several high-profile projects, including the Dennis Rodman biopic 48 Hours in Vegas and future Marvel films featuring his Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania character, Kang.
In December 2023, Majors was found guilty of one count of third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment. He avoided jail time but was ordered by a New York City judge to complete a 52-week, in-person batterer’s intervention program and to continue mental health therapy.
In January 2024, Searchlight Pictures, which had recently acquired Magazine Dreams after its critically praised premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, returned the distribution rights to the filmmakers. The film was later acquired by Briarcliff Entertainment and released in March 2025, opening to $701,365 and ultimately grossing $1.1 million domestically.
