Jim Carrey On The ‘Sonic’ Franchise Being His Main Acting Project Over The Past Several Years

Jim Carrey is excited families can continue the journey with Team Sonic in Sonic The Hedgehog 3.

Carrey sat down with Trey Mangum, Blavity/Shadow and Act’s managing editor, to talk about his double role of Dr. Robotnik and Gerald Robotnik. When asked bout the film being his primary acting role over the past several years, save for the Showtime series Kidding, Carrey said he felt “gratified” during the first installments of the film series, because families were able to spend time together during the COVID pandemic.

Now, he said, he is a fan of where the franchise is headed.

“I like where it’s going. I really like where the films have gone and all these fantastic people that are joining up,” he said. “…Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves, it’s unbelievable, the men that every man would love to be and they’re jumping into this thing. I think they all feel it’s heart. It’s a good way to do the superhero genre in a different way.”

Continuing to come back to the world of Sonic

Carrey also talked about, despite what other projects he might be doing, he always wants to come back to the world of Sonic and the group of people who have now made the franchise a safe space for fans.

“Every time they come back to me with this thing, I look at the look of people I’ve been working with, and it’s really kind of a cool family, and everybody who joins feels the same way,” he said. “I had a nice talk with Keanu last night, and he just seemed to fit right in. He was just really loving the vibe on the set, the vibe of [director] Jeff Fowler, all these really good people. We like the people that come from cartoons for some reason. They have a sensibility that’s really lovely.”
