Late Thursday night, a tweet from an alleged reporter named W. Keith Friedman surfaced that Tennessee State was on the verge of hiring Jeff Fisher as their next head football coach.
Fisher himself refuted that rumor Friday morning.
“Let’s clear this up right now; there was never interest by either party regarding the coaching vacancy at Tennessee State,” Fisher said in a statement about his purported ties to the job that was reported by multiple media outlets. “With that said, I am 100 percent committed to my current job as commissioner of Arena Football.”
Tennessee State is currently looking for a replacement for Eddie George, who accepted the head coaching position at FBS school Bowling Green earlier this month.
Football Scoop reported on Friday that Tennessee State has targeted former HBCU and XFL coach Reggie Barlow and current Southern tight ends coach Fred McNair for the position.
