In addition to New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is another January holiday, the same as Inauguration Day.

What is open and closed on New Year’s Eve?

New Year’s Eve falls on a Tuesday this year, with banks, post offices and delivery services operating regularly. However, USA Today reported that some locations have modified business hours.

The U.S. Postal Service will be open during regular business hours and deliver mail.

Most banks, including Capital One, Bank of America, PNC, Truist and CitiBank, will be open Tuesday, the companies confirmed to USA Today.

PNC is the only bank that will close its branches at 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, the company told the outlet.

UPS Air and International Services will operate on New Year’s Eve, but ground delivery will be unavailable. Most FedEx pickup and delivery services will remain in operation.

What is open and closed on New Year’s Day?

New Year’s Day falls on Wednesday. According to the Hindustan Times, here is a list of what is open and closed on the holiday:

Home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s will close early at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. On New Year’s Day, Home Depot will operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., while Lowe’s will open at 9 a.m. and close early at 6 p.m. Costco will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve but remain closed on New Year’s Day.

Department stores like Macy’s and Kohl’s will have slightly adjusted schedules. Macy’s will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and have regular hours on New Year’s Day. Kohl’s will operate from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack will remain open on both days but with limited hours.

For grocery shopping, Albertsons and Kroger will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with reduced hours. Walmart will maintain regular hours on both days, while Target will operate with regular hours on New Year’s Eve but may have varied schedules on New Year’s Day.
