A war of words was exchanged on social media by Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Nancy Mace after the latter shared a post stating that she was sending “thoughts and prayers” to Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib after hearing the news of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Rep. Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, shared a post on X stating, “My heart goes out to Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib tonight. Sending them thoughts and prayers.”
The post, which mentioned a Fox News graphic stating that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was dead, was meant to ridicule the two Congresswomen, as both Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib have been vocal critics of the Israeli government’s military activities against the Palestinians.
Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, directly replied to the post.
“I hope you aren’t drunk and took your staff’s advice, Rashida and I don’t know this man and feel confident he didn’t care about us,” Rep. Ilhan Omar wrote to Rep. Mace. “Please restrain from drinking too much as you have been warned from your staff and stay off social media when you are drunk. I pray in his holy month you find peace and respect for your self.”
