THE TESTAMENTS - “First Look” (Disney) LUCY HALLIDAY, CHASE INFINITI

The first trailer and key art for Hulu’s upcoming series “The Testaments” have been released, and the series will expand the dystopian world created in “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

“The Testaments” will be a drama series that premieres on April 8 with three episodes, then airs weekly. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ for bundle subscribers.

“The Testaments” is a drama series based on Margaret Atwood’s bestselling novel of the same title, and it will continue the story of the theocratic society of Gilead. Still, this time it will be a new chapter in the story, taking place years after the story in “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

The Testaments

A New Generation Inside Gilead

“The Testaments” has been described as a “coming-of-age drama series” and will feature two young women navigating life in the oppressive society of Gilead.

“The Testaments” will feature the story of Agnes, who was raised inside the oppressive society of Gilead, and Daisy, who was raised outside of Gilead and will eventually embrace the rigid belief system of the oppressive society of Gilead, and their lives will be intertwined in an elite preparatory school run by Aunt Lydia, where young women will be trained to be wives.

Inside the institution, the value of obedience is further enforced through discipline and religious teachings. As the relationship between Agnes and Daisy develops, it sparks events that lead to revelations threatening to upend the world the characters live in.

Creative Team Behind the Series

The Testaments was created by Bruce Miller, who is also the showrunner and executive producer of the series. The new series is part of the same creative team that worked on The Handmaid’s Tale, bringing some of the original show’s veteran producers on board.

The executive producers of the show are Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Mike Barker.

The show is directed by Mike Barker, who helms the first three episodes and the season finale. MGM Television and 20th Television produce the show.

Cast Expands the World of Gilead

The show features Ann Dowd reprising her role as the formidable Aunt Lydia in the series. The show also features a new ensemble cast that includes Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya, Kira Guloien, among others.

The show is set to premiere as the world awaits the future of the Gilead franchise, which has been one of the biggest original dramas on Hulu since the premiere of The Handmaid’s Tale in 2017.
