Howard men hand North Carolina Central first MEAC loss

The Howard men’s basketball team turned a close game into a comfortable win that keeps them in the MEAC championship chase.

A 24-7 second half run that spanned 6 minutes and 53 seconds of game action was the difference as the Bison defeated host North Carolina 83-69 Saturday afternoon.

The loss was Central’s first in conference play while Howard improved to 2-2 in MEAC action.

Howard (11-8 overall) led 35-32 when the Eagles started the second half with a Gage Lattimore basket to pull within one point.

The Bison started their streak with an Ose Okojie three-pointer and poured it on until they led 59-41 seven minutes into the second half.  North Carolina Central (7-12 overall, 3-1 MEAC) could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Bryce Harris led the Bison with 20 points, and he was joined in double figures by Okojie (19 points), Cedric Taylor III (17 points) and Travelle Bryson (15 points).

North Carolina Central was led by Tekao Carpenter’s game-high of 21 points.
