Holly Humberstone Announces North American Tour and Sophomore Album Cruel World

Holly Humberstone

Holly Humberstone, the British singer and songwriter, is set to head back to North America this summer with a new headlining tour to accompany her upcoming second album, “Cruel World,” out April 10th on Interscope Records.

Humberstone’s Cruel World North American Tour will begin on June 3rd at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club. It will make its way through headlining cities such as D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, and San Francisco, as well as festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Governors Ball, and All Things Go Toronto.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on Tuesday, February 10th, with general ticket sales going on Friday, Feb. 13th, through Humberstone’s official site.

This tour will support Humberstone’s second album, “Cruel World,” which explores the dichotomy of pain and pleasure and themes of chaos, acceptance, and memory. She has said that the process leading up to the release has been all about repair, belonging, and reconnecting with symbols and memories of her youth.

Her first album of 2023, “Paint My Bedroom Black,” is all about chaos and longing. “Cruel World” is more about stability and reflection, and she has said that she has incorporated elements of childhood mementos and gothic storytelling. The music videos were created with her sister, Eleri, and creative director Silken, and they incorporated items from Humberstone’s childhood home, such as ballet shoes, “Alice in Wonderland” books, and films like “Edward Scissorhands” and “James and the Giant Peach.”

She wrote the album with Rob Milton and did daily studio sessions. The album is all about love, whether it’s romantic, platonic, or feminine. Humberstone has said that she is all about getting rid of the “cutthroat” female vibes and embracing female love and solidarity as a means of survival.

Her songs, such as “Die Happy,” combine love, danger, and desire with gothic and fairy-tale elements, drawing inspiration from Dracula and seasonal change. “To Love Somebody,” her latest single release, was inspired by Victorian theatre, the Brothers Grimm, and Nosferatu.

She performed on “To Love Somebody” on January 28th on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

Since her breakthrough EP “Falling Asleep at the Wheel” in 2020, she has established herself as a singer-songwriter who writes cinematic and emotionally honest songs. She was honored as BRIT Rising Star in 2022 and also received an Ivor Novello nomination for “Haunted House.”

She also performed at Glastonbury and Lollapalooza music festivals and even supported Taylor Swift at Wembley Stadium.
