The Talk finally ends its 15 years of daytime round table discussions with a champagne-infused goodbye.
Variety reports that the final minutes of the series finale were complete with the cast of hosts. Original co-host Sheryl Underwood and newer additions Jerry O’Connell, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots and Natalie Morales gathered around a themed cake and champagne flutes as they shared their hopes and love with the audience.
Morales started by saying, “We thank you all for watching and laughing, sometimes even crying along with us. We thank everyone for being here with us. Our wonderful crew here with us every day, to the producing team, to our wonderful loyal audience.”
She continued giving thanks to the audience saying how so many of them have “filled these seats day after, day, time after time.” She added that she and the cast would miss the executive producers who have worked on the various season of the show.
What did Sheryl Underwood say about the show ending?
Underwood gave praise to God for the show’s 15 seasons, while O’Connell gave praise to Underwood for being the leading light of the show.
“I went back and watched my first episode,” he said. “I mean, you guys aren’t gonna believe this, but I was jumping out of my seat. And Sheryl, after the show, took me aside and was just like, ‘hey, man, you’ve been here before. Just act like you’ve been here.’ And I really want to thank Sheryl.”
Gbajabiamila also called the show “a great work environment,” adding, “No matter what corner of the building I was in, it was always just good energy, good people.”
Originating as an idea from Sarah Gilbert, The Talk premiered on CBS in 2010, with Underwood joining the show in its second season. The lineup of hosts, including Gilbert, Julie Chen Moonves and Sharon Osbourne, were anchors of CBS’ daytime slate until various controversies and career choices led to the current cast.
What will replace ‘The Talk’
The Talk will be replaced by the upcoming soap opera, Beyond the Gates, which is the first-ever one-hour, Black daytime soap and the first new daytime soap overall since Passions in 1999.
