HBCU Women’s Soccer team cancels season

An HBCU women’s soccer team is canceling their season out of concern for their athletes.

Mississippi Valley State announced Tuesday afternoon that the women’s soccer team would not finish the 2025 season due to health and safety concerns.

“This was not an easy decision to make, but it was a necessary one,” Mississippi Valley State athletic director Dr. Alecia Shields Gadson said in a statement. “The circumstances impacting the health and safety of our student-athletes have reached a point where we cannot confidently continue the season without putting them at undue risk.”

The Delta Devils had exhibitions against Ole Miss and Louisiana Tech canceled before losing an exhibition to Division II Mississippi College 7-0, then their lone regular season match at Nicholls 3-0.
