Southern University delivered one of the most stunning road victories in program history Tuesday night, defeating Arizona 63–57 at McKale Center before a crowd of 5,245.
The Lady Jaguars never trailed and dictated the pace from start to finish, controlling all four quarters against the Pac-12 opponent.
Southern set the tone with a stifling defensive effort in the opening period, building a 16–11 lead and carrying that momentum into halftime behind balanced scoring and sharp half-court execution.
Arizona mounted its strongest push in the third quarter, but Southern responded each time with timely baskets to preserve its lead.
The Jaguars extended their advantage to 11 points midway through the final quarter and held firm down the stretch, sealing the upset from the free-throw line. Southern finished 8 of 10 at the stripe, including several crucial makes in the closing minute.
The victory marks one of the program’s most impressive nonconference performances, showcasing Southern’s poise and discipline on a national stage
