HBCU hooper throws down ‘dunk of the year’ in final career home game

After four years of show-stopping dunks for Spartan fans in Echols Hall, Norfolk State guard Christian Ings saved his greatest trick for last.

Playing his final game at Echols, the graduate senior delivered two absurd slams within minutes of one another to cap off a 69-60 Senior Night victory over Morgan State on Monday night.

ESPN broadcaster Derek Jones described one of the slams as a “dunk of the year candidate.”

The two slams were notable since it has been two years since Ings tore his ACL.

The Spartans (20-8, 10-1 MEAC) became the first MEAC team in history to record four consecutive 20-win seasons.

Ings led the Spartans with 12 points in a well-balanced scoring effort. Four Spartan seniors scored in double figures on their day of recognition:

Ings (12), Brian Moore Jr. (11), Terrance Jones (11), and Jalen Myers (10). Sophomore Chris Fields Jr. added 11 points as well, as the Spartans improved to 40-1 in head coach Robert Jones’ tenure when five or more players score in double figures.
