HBCU athletics program is going cashless for home football games

An HBCU athletics program is soft launching a cashless system for its home football games beginning next month.

Alcorn State announced Wednesday that beginning with their Oct. 4 game against Prairie View A&M, fans will be encouraged to swipe or tap credit and debit cards for tickets and concessions.

“This initiative is part of Alcorn’s continued efforts to enhance the gameday experience through improved efficiency, increased safety, and a more modernized payment process,” the university said in a statement.

Alcorn State listed the positives of this move, including faster and more secure credit/debit card purchases, shorter waiting times and enhanced safety and accountability.

This soft launch will precede a full cashless transition later in the season.
