The two-day NCAA DIvision II Indoor Track & Field Championships begin today with a wealth of HBCU athletes set to compete for a National Championship.
There will be 15 HBCU athletes represented in the Division II Indoor Championships, including nine men, four of whom will compete in the long jump.
Elsewhere, three of the six women that qualified for Indoor Nationals will be in the 60m hurdles.
Here are all of the HBCU athletes that will participate in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Men
Antonio Smith, Virginia Union
Event: 60m Hurdles
Joining Harris in the men’s 60m hurdles is Virginia Union sophomore Antonio Smith, making his second career appearance at Indoor Nationals.
Smith claimed his second straight CIAA championship in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 7.96 seconds, his third time clocking under eight seconds this season.
This played a part in Virginia Union claiming their first team track & field conference championship (indoor or outdoor) for the first time in nearly a century.
His season-best time of 7.88 is the eighth-fastest in the country, making him one of nine athletes total to run faster than 7.9 seconds in Division II.
Brandon Harris, Lincoln (MO)
Event: 60m Hurdles
Lincoln (Mo.) freshman Brandon Harris looks to build on what has been an incredible start to his collegiate career, adding another championship trophy to his collection.
At the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) championships, Harris ran a season-best time of 7.95 in the preliminary round, then claimed first-place in the finals with an 8.0-second time.
He is one of only three freshmen who will compete in the men’s 60m hurdle field.
Jaevon Riley, Claflin
Event: 400m
Known primarily for his success in the outdoor season, Claflin veteran Jaevon Riley returns to the Indoor National Championships for the second time in the men’s 400m.
The Panthers’ senior concludes his indoor career at nationals after claiming his second straight CIAA 400m title with a time of 47.59 seconds.
His season-best 46.42 mark is tied for fifth-best in the country, making him one of only eight athletes to record a sub-46.5-second time this season.
Riley made a name for himself as a 400m hurdler in the outdoor season, qualifying for Nationals in each of his first three seasons and reaching the finals in the last two years. This includes a second-place finish in last year’s finals.
Zack Washington, Benedict
Event: Long Jump
Benedict senior Zack Washington stars in an HBCU-rich long jump field that features four other athletes.
Washington claimed his second straight SIAC Indoor Championship in the long jump, logging a 7.61m measurement, just short of his personal-best of 7.70m (second-best in Division II this season).
At last weekend’s HBCU Championships, he claimed a dominant win with a 7.35m jump, beating the second-place athlete by .37 meters.
Though this will be his first career appearance at Indoor Nationals, this will be his second career nationals overall, having finished fifth in the long jump at last year’s Outdoor Nationals.
Jamarri Norman, Allen
Event: Long Jump
Joining Washington in the long jump field is SIAC adversary Jamarri Norman, a sophomore making his first career appearance at Indoor Nationals.
Norman finished second behind Washington in the long jump final at the SIAC Championships, posting a season-best mark of 7.50m (seventh-best in Division II).
In addition, the Yellow Jacket athlete claimed a first-place finish in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 8.14 seconds. He also finished second in the high jump with a 2.05m mark.
Dimetri Browne, Lincoln (MO)
Event: Long Jump
After missing the 2025 season, Lincoln (MO) senior Dimetri Brown returns to the track, qualifying for his career Indoor Nationals.
Browne finished in second place in the long jump in his first GLVC conference championships (he last competed in the 2024 Outdoor conference championships when Lincoln was a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association).
He recorded a season-best mark of 7.40m, tied for 12th best in the country this season.
Kwame Whitaker, Virginia State
Event: Long Jump
Rounding out the list of HBCU athletes that qualified for Nationals in the long jump event is Virginia State junior Kwame Whitaker.
This is also Whitaker’s first career Indoor Nationals appearance, entering the event after finishing second at the CIAA championships with a 7.05m mark.
He qualified for Nationals with a measurement of 7.39m at Winter Relays on February 6.
Malik Drummond, Lincoln (MO)
Event: Triple Jump
Another Lincoln (MO) athlete who will participate in the national championships is senior triple jumper Malik Drummond.
The Lincoln senior went back-to-back in the triple jump at the GLVC Championships, putting up a 15.12 mark. His season-best 15.39m is eighth-best in Division II.
This is Drummond’s second career qualification, having finished 12th at last year’s event.
Carson Calhoun, Virginia Union
Event: High Jump
Rounding out the list of men’s athletes set to compete at the Division II Indoor Championships is Virginia Union high jumper, Carson Calhoun.
The Panthers’ sophomore claimed the CIAA Indoor title with a 2.03m, his second time reaching over 2.00m this season.
He holds a season-best measurement of 2.11m, also serving as his personal best.
Women
Aaliyannah Anderson, Lincoln (MO)
Event: 60m Hurdles
The first of three HBCU women’s athletes to qualify in the 60m hurdles field is Lincoln (MO)’s Aaliyannah Anderson.
Anderson’s eventful GLVC Championships included claiming the 60 hurdles title in 8.49 seconds, finishing third in the open 60m (7.65), and fourth in the 200m (24.86).
Her season-best 60m hurdles time of 8.39 seconds is the eighth-best in the Division II field.
Morgan Coverson-Springs, Claflin
Event: 60m Hurdles
Like Anderson, Claflin sophomore Morgan Coverson-Springs racked up a laundry list of accomplishments at her conference championship meet.
This included winning the 60m hurdles title (8.49) and 200m title (24.17) while finishing third in the triple jump (12.16m) and fourth in the open 60m (7.65).
She has a season-best time of 8.41 in the 60m hurdles, ranking 10th in the National Championships.
Kyndra Hines, District of Columbia
Event: 60m Hurdles
Rounding out the list of HBCU athletes that will compete in the women’s 60 hurdles is University of the District of Columbia (UDC) freshman Kyndra Hines.
Hines ran her season-best time of 8.52 seconds at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships to take home the 60 hurdles title. She also won the 60m title in 7.65 seconds.
Hines is one of only two freshmen competing in this field.
Quana Walker, Lincoln (MO)
Event: 200m
The final Lincoln (MO) athlete on this list is freshman Quana Walker, who will be competing in the 200m in her first career national championship.
Walker’s bid for the 200m title at the GLVC championship meet came to an abrupt end when she pulled up in the finals shortly after getting out of the blocks.
She comes into Nationals with a season-best of 24.13 seconds.
Jhnyia Knuckles, Claflin
Event: Triple Jump
Rounding out the entire list of HBCU athletes that will appear in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships is a pair of triple jumpers out of the CIAA.
Beginning with Claflin junior Jhnyia Knuckles, she is tied for 10th in the field with a season-best measurement of 12.28m at the CIAA Indoor Championships.
This is her first Indoor Nationals berth and her second career national championship meet, having competed in last year’s Outdoor National Championships.
Sabrena Hogan, Livingstone
Event: Triple Jump
Livingstone sophomore Sabrena Hogan comes into her first career national championship, looking to build on the momentum of her impressive CIAA championship.
Although Hogan finished second to Knuckles in the triple jump at CIAAs, it showed significant improvement in her performance from the previous year, having finished 13th.
She also recorded a season-best measurement at conference championships, jumping 12.21m.
