University of Georgia football player Colbie Young has been arrested. He is the seventh member of the team this year who has gotten himself in legal trouble. According to various media, Young was arrested early this morning on misdemeanor charges for battery and assault on an unborn child. The incident took place at Young’s apartment and involved his ex-girlfriend, who showed up shortly after midnight to discuss their relationship.
As might be expected, it wasn’t until the ex-girlfriend realized Young was on the phone with another woman that things turned ugly. At that point, it’s alleged that Young pulled her by the arm and shoved her out of the room. The situation continued to play out when Young reportedly returned from his bedroom upon hearing the woman answer a call. That is when he picked her up and squeezed her torso and abdomen “very hard,” according to the ex-girlfriend.
The police came in response to the woman’s call and noted bruising and discoloration on the right bottom side of her chest, continuing onto her right flank as redness. However, even with visible injuries, Young denied any physical altercation, only agreeing that an argument had occurred. And when asked about the woman’s injuries, Young is quoted as saying, “not from me.”
Young was arrested and booked into the Clarke County jail, where his bail was set at $2,500. His attorney released a statement denying the allegations on the grounds that Young’s ex-girlfriend was upset because he had asked her to leave his apartment.
This arrest is the latest in a line of setbacks that have plagued the Georgia football program, which has seen several legal problems involving players throughout the year. Young’s status with the team remains a mystery as investigations of the incident remain under way.
